Convention Articles A Trail-Blazing, Star-Gazing Colorado Convention Planned
AGR’s to meet in a state of stunning beauty and unparalleled adventure for 59th Convention
The Rocky Mountain West -- Teeming herds of buffalo grazing across vast landscapes; cowboys and cattle silhouetted against a painted mountain sky. From dazzling snow-capped mountains and sun-drenched high-plains, Colorado claims a range of landscapes and ecosystems unmatched anywhere. These are the images of Colorado and the backbone of an amazing Western culture where Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity will meet for its 59th National Convention, August 13-16, 2006. David Ellicott, Colorado State, Convention Chairman, proudly announces that the 2006 convention will be held at Beaver Run Resort & Conference Center, Breckenridge, Colorado. Resort In 145-Year Old Town Beaver Run is located in Breckenridge, Colorado, a town created by the Gold Rush in 1859. At 9,600 feet elevation, it is just a scenic 90-minute drive from Denver International Airport. Breckenridge has experienced a rich history of boom and bust. Mining ended in the 1940s, leaving Breckenridge on hard times for more than 20 years. The new "gold rush" started in the 1960s with the introduction of alpine skiing. Breckenridge Ski Resort is now known around the world as a world-class ski resort. Surprisingly, there is actually more to do in the summer than in the winter. If you’re adventurous there are hiking and mountain bike trails that reach the area’s many mountain summits, many approaching 14,000 feet in elevation. For less strenuous activity you can paddle a canoe on the many lakes, cast your line in one of the gold medal trout streams or ride a horse to an abandoned gold mine. Breckenridge’s history as a mining town is still alive in the charming Victorian town. Strict building codes have preserved many of the Victorian era buildings of the old west. The town is known for an abundance of incomparable shopping, dining and nightlife. More than 400 boutiques, galleries, bistros, salons, restaurants and more offer a variety of choices for every taste and budget. About Beaver Run Inspired by the boldness of nature, Beaver Run Resort captures nature’s palette, texture – even her mood. "We think you’ll find the result to be a perfect setting for one of the most inspirational and enjoyable National AGR Conventions ever," suggests Bob Means, Iowa State, Family Coordinator for the 2006 event. For a special convention evening, enjoy dining at the award-winning Spencer’s Steaks & Spirits. Between convention sessions, grab a quick breakfast or lunch at the Copper Top Cafe. In the evening, enjoy drink specials and watch your favorite sporting event at Tiffany’s, a sports pub. Beaver Run Breckenridge Bodyworks is located on site and offers variety of services, including Swedish, Sports and Deep Tissue Massages. They also offer massages for teens and children. A number of spa treatments are also offered. Golf, Other Attractions For golfers, the town of Breckenridge has the distinction of having the only 27-hole municipally owned Jack Nicklaus-designed course in the world. The practice facility at Breckenridge includes a grass driving range, two practice greens for putting and chipping, and an area for sharpening your sand bunker shots. For die-hard golfers, the Keystone Ranch, River Course, Copper Creek Golf Club and the River Golf Club are within minutes of Beaver Run. A variety of local attractions are available in Breckenridge. There’s the Summer Music Festival at the Breckenridge Riverwalk Center, Peak 8 Fun Park, Country Boy Mine Tours, historic walking tours plus shopping, dining and nightlife on historic Main Street. Rocky Mountain High When you think about what Colorado’s Rocky Mountains have to offer, you’ll want to begin making your plans now to attend the 2006 Convention, August 13-16, in Breckenridge, Colorado. A unique blend of environment, attitude and altitude – youthful, wacky, and even outright country – promises to make this the ultimate AGR summer break, whether it is your first convention or your 59th. See you in Breckenridge, partner!
