Brothers Share Lifelong Friendship

Brother
W.A. Milton, Jr. and Brother W.T. Millis, Jr. were both initiated into Alpha
Gamma Rho at the University of Florida in 1955 and 1954, respectively. After
graduation in 1956 they served together in the U.S. Army at Fort Knox, Ky
and returned to their home state of Florida after their military service.
W.A. Milton, Jr. became County Judge of Lake County, Florida in January
1961. W.T. Mills, Jr. became the Chief Counselor of the Lake County Juvenile
Court in January 1961. In 1971, W.T. Mills became an area supervisor for the
Division of Youth Services for the State of Florida. Milton became County
Court Judge of Lake County in 1973. Mills left government service in 1973
and began a career with CSX Railway Systems.
Milton completed his law studies at the University of Florida and was
admitted to the Florida Bar in 1982. He retired from the bench in 1985 and
practiced law until his retirement in 1995. Mills retired from CSX Systems
in 1987 and returned to his childhood community in Marion County, Florida,
where he has devoted himself to community affairs, his church, has continued
farming and restores and sells antique furniture.
At a recent event at which Mills received the R. David Thomas Foundations
Child Advocate of the Year Award, Milton gave much credit to Mills for his
success in working with children. Mills spoke of Milton’s devotion to the
youth of their community and state during his twenty-four year career on the
bench and his forty-two years as a Kiwanis leader in the community.
What is so fascinating about their story is that these two men met in 1952
and cemented their friendship in Alpha Gamma Rho and over 50 years later are
still neighbors, going to Florida football games together and still work for
the betterment of their communities.
