Eta Chapter Supports a Brother

Brad Fahrmann, a fall 2002 Iowa State initiate, has been fighting cancer since his high school days. As a 16 year old, he was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma Cancer. His cancer had been in remission during his senior year but later that summer, the cancer reoccurred. As a first semester freshman majoring in Animal Ecology, Brad fought the battle while attending classes and never complained. As a tribute to Brother Fahrmann’s perseverance and strong character, he has been nicknamed “Sweetness” by his AGR brothers. It was difficult for the undergrads to learn Brad would not be able to continue his education spring semester when they returned from the semester break.

During VEISHEA 2003, the AGR food stand became a “Brad Fahrmann Benefit.” This food stand is along the parade route and a traditional spot for AGR alums to gather during this student celebration showcasing Iowa State. After promoting our endeavors to all Iowa State Alumni, Brad’s hometown, and throughout the ISU Greek community the food stand was open for just 6 hours. About $3400 was raised. The undergraduate chapter voted to refund his house bill for the semester, so Sweetness received over $5000 for his needs from the Iowa State Chapter “Brad Fahrmann Benefit.”

Brad has re-enrolled at ISU for the fall 04 semester and is optimistic that he will be with his AGR brothers next semester. Let’s all keep Brad, his family and Iowa State Chapter in our thoughts and prayers. n
