Mom Brenda Tiger came to Pi Chapter in 1994 from the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) House at Oklahoma State. At that time, 1418 men had been initiated into Pi Chapter. To the present, she has helped over 200 newly initiated men, along with countless alumni and undergrads make the transition from young men to adult life and beyond.

Mom Tiger grew up in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1961. Her family consist s of her son Lucian, daughter Jo Lynn, grandchildren, and her many “sons.”

During her rein as House Mother, she has helped to train in social graces and etiquette, many times at the protest of the undergraduates brothers to learn them. Yet she is quite capable of getting your cooperation whether it is her attention grabbing glances or the harmless tossing of a dinner roll in your direction. She has cheered up many boys when they get homesick and has straightened them out quickly when they need it. Mom has spent many a night counseling the undergrads with romantic problems and encouraged them to study when needed. She is always around to help the sick and to let them know how they should act around other people. Mom Tiger is truly a mother to the undergrads away from home.

Hardly an activity goes on without her presence. Whether it is at a flag football game, the annual Calf-Fry or taking pictures at 3 am during homecoming. Her determination is evident in the fact that she has been selected as the recipient of the Marie Coe Memorial Housemother Award for Social and Cultural Programming 4 times in a row. (1996, 1997-1998, 1998-1999, 1999-2000, 2002-2003) Mom Tiger has even traveled to many Chapters, helping those Chapters to train, replace or even start their own Housemother programs.

In late November, Mom married Vernon Bindel in the first wedding held at the chapter house and finished out her final semester this fall -- bringing her service to Pi Chapter and Alpha Gamma Rho to a total of 10 years.

Mom Tiger is very well liked by the Brothers in the house and respected by the Alumni. Pi Chapter is very fortunate, and proud, to have Mrs. Brenda Tiger as our Housemother. n
